At the beginning of this year, the International Association for Eco-Textiles updated its existing testing standards and limits for certification services. After the transition period, all new regulations will come into force on 1 April 2020.
1. Madeingreenbyoeko-tex ® now includes leather products
Following the introduction of the MADEINGREEN label for textiles in 2015, this sustainability label can be applied to leather products from January 2020.In 2019, the International Ecological Textiles Association extended STeP certification to leather products factories.Oeko-tex ® is a step forward by integrating leather products with the MADEINGREEN label.Leather products labeled as MADEINGREEN have been tested for hazardous substances according to LEATHERSTANDARD and manufactured in environmentally friendly and socially responsible factories according to STeP.This allows consumers to trace the manufacturing plant and country of leather goods, such as clothing, footwear or furniture, through a unique product ID or qr code on the label.Oeko-tex ® also requires that the manufacturing plant be audited to verify that the production plant is up to standard.MADEINGREEN has been listed by Greenpeace as one of the strictest labels on the market.
2. New restricted substances
Substances included in the STANDARD100 and Leather-Standard: carcinogenic nitrosamines, nitroso substances.
Substances included in STANDARD100's limit list: the herbicide glyphosate and its salina.
In addition, STANDARD100 and LEATHERSTANDARD set limits for the total amount of arsenic and mercury, toxic heavy metals.Stringent requirements for residues in textile materials will reduce the overall impact on the environment, workers and consumers.
3. New substances to be monitored
In 2020 oeko-Tex ® will monitor a variety of new substances based on the latest scientific findings.According to REACH, some substances with special hazardous characteristics and arylamines have been classified as SVHC substances, and the new standard will also carry out strict testing for various dyes, pesticides and perfluorinated compounds involved.
4. Integrate DETOXTOZERO into Stepbyoeko-Tex ®
